Whats new in bodybuiding

Try Some Rubbers To Make You A Man Of Steel.

No I don't mean like that. I mean build some rock hard muscles.

Working out in the gym is great for building strength and muscle. Heavy iron is responsible for some of the best physiques of all time.

But there is another way to pack on solid rippling flesh.

Most of us have owned Chest Expanders/Bullworkers with steel springs at one time or another and had great results from them. Then one day we go to the gym and see everyone working out with iron and think "that is the 'only' way to do it".

Nowadays you can get chest expanders with rubber strands instead of steel. These have fewer disadvantages (i. e. pinched chest hairs) and are lighter.

Many of the old time strongmen performed feats of strength and set records for strand pulling.

Exercising with traditional weights, the resistance is the same throughout the exercise but, with springs and strands the resistance increases as it stretches.

This will work the muscles in a totally different way, starting with very low resistance and increasing as you get to your strongest point.

Want To Add A New Twist?

How about a few sets of slow motion exercises. These can be done with iron or strands.

You will need to reduce your regular resistance by at least 30%. Now do the exercise in slow motion so that it takes 10 seconds to lift the weight and 5 to lower it again. Aim for 3 sets of 8 reps, each to total failure.

When I say total failure I mean it. If you can finish a rep it is not total failure. Total failure is when you get part way through a rep and can not go any further. At failure point do not just stop, try for 4 seconds more to move the resistance before slowly lowering back to starting point.

If you can complete 3 sets of 8 reps then it is time to increase the resistance by 10%. If you can not complete the first set of eight in slow motion educe the weight so you can do at least 2 of the 3 sets for eight reps.

Do the exercise in perfect form without using any other cheating moves, if you do a curl, just use your biceps, not your hips or back.

You can perform many exercises with a set of strands and keep in shape when you can not get out to the gym.

With a little imagination you can do a variety of exercises in addition to the standard chest pulls.

You can put one foot in one of the handles to do one arm curls or upright rowing.

You can hold a handle behind your back and do overhead presses or tricep extensions.

Hold a handle by your abs to do lateral side raises.

Now There Is A New Kid On The Block And The Name Is Bodylastics.

Bodylastics are different sized rubber strands of varying resistance and you can exercise each body part with any resistance.

They come with, a door anchor that can be used on most doors at any height, 2 hand grips and 2 ankle straps.

With a little thought you can emulate any exercise you can do in the gym (and a few you can't). The Bodylastics website shows 140 different exercises.

What about the times when you cant get to the gym? Bodylastics are light at less than 2 pounds weight and can easily be packed in your hand luggage when travelling.

Bodylastics absolutely works. After only a few short weeks of using Bodylastics you will discover improvements in muscle building, toning, posture and confidence.

As with any new program it is recommended that you start slowly and build up gradually as you gain experience. Even Arnold had to start with low weights and learn from more experienced bodybuilders.

This article is provided as entertainment and no responsibility can be taken for loss or injuries incurred during physical exercise. If you have not undertaken any form of exercise for a while, please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program.

Fitness is not a competition with anyone else. It is just for you, so find what you enjoy and go have some fun.

Are you losing body fat or water

“I tried that diet and lost 8 pounds in the first week!”

“I’ve gained three pounds in one day! It must have been the cookie I ate or maybe the mashed potatoes!”

Stepping on the scale can become an anxiety filled event that leaves people wondering where they went wrong when the numbers don’t go in the right direction. This leads to panic and usually ends with blaming a particular food item that really wasn’t the culprit. Everyone who has been on a journey to lose weight has been there before. Even though you are following your plan and exercising regularly the number may go up 1-2 pounds or even up to 3-4 pounds creating unnecessary guilt that we have failed somehow. If it’s not always food that makes our weight creep up then what is it that causes these fluctuations on the scale?

When trying to lose weight the scale often becomes the only measurement of success and this makes it difficult to remember that every time we step on a scale it is measuring every part of our physical being at that moment in time, which means it measures our fat, muscles, organs, tissue and water weight. Body fat is not the only thing being measured. While organs and tissue don’t change much; fat, muscle, and water do change which can result in fluctuating numbers on the scale.

Water weight can affect your total weight anywhere from 1-10 pounds and sometimes even more. It is important to understand what kinds of dietary factors can make these fluid shifts happen. To start, many of the high protein, low carbohydrate diets can cause a dramatic shift in your water weight. This is because as you cut back carbohydrate intake your body starts breaking down the stored carbohydrates (glycogen) to use as energy, and this breakdown causes the body to excrete large amounts of water. Once the body begins to use stored fat for energy, weight loss slows. This is the reason why most people lose a significant amount of weight right away on a low carb, high protein diet. Extreme low carb, high protein diets can potentially lead to dehydration because of this significant fluid loss.

When a person following a low carb plan eats a carbohydrate-rich food they can easily gain 1-3 pounds. However, this weight gain can be misleading because it is usually your body replenishing the fluid it lost and not gained fat. This 3 pound fluctuation becomes frustrating for many people and they end up yo-yoing back and forth with fluid weight thinking that it must be the half cup of rice they had the night before that caused them to gain that 3 pounds when in fact eating the rice just allowed them to regain some of the fluid they had lost from following a strict low carb plan. The fact is carbohydrates do not affect your weight quite that simply. Excess carbohydrates can strongly stimulate insulin production, which promotes fat deposition and increases appetite. This kind of weight gain will happen gradually, not dramatically overnight.

Sodium is another dietary component that can lead to fluid gain. Sodium can cause the body to retain fluid, leading to these frustrating daily weight fluctuations. Some people are more sensitive to sodium than others. Watch your diet and see if your weight gain corresponds with a high sodium meal the day before. For example, eating out in restaurants can often increase your sodium intake significantly.

The best way to tell if you are retaining fluid is to pay attention to your body. If you get indentations on your ankles and lower legs from your socks then you are retaining fluid. If you wear rings and they become tight and leave an imprint in your fingers when you take them off then you also retaining fluid. Any kind of puffiness in your skin is a good indication of water weight.

The bottom line is that it takes 3500 calories to gain or lose 1 pound of body fat. This equates to an extra 500 calories a day over 7 days to gain a pound. This means if you gained 3 pounds in one day you can chalk it up to fluid weight otherwise you would have had to consume 10,500 extra calories that day which is not likely! True weight gain happens gradually and likewise we lose it gradually. Check your weight weekly instead of daily and look for overall trends. If you are seeing dramatic daily changes in your weight, it is likely the ever-changing shifts of our body’s water weight.

Glimpses from history of steroids in bodybuilding

:
The history of steroids in bodybuilding is often linked with the idea of bigness, which in bodybuilding just means big doses of anabolic steroids. The idea of bigness was responsible for bringing up many out of control steroid freaks in bodybuilding in the Seventies. The criterion of bigness was actually created by IFBB for adjudicating winners of the international contests, such as Mr. Olympia.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is perhaps the most prominent name in the history of steroids in bodybuilding. Arnold got on steroids when he realized that he needed to bulk up his body when he lost to Frank Zane in 1968. Arnold, now the Governor of California, is honest enough to admit that he was using steroids during his years as a champion body builder.

Actually, steroids were viewed totally different in the 70's. They were considered as supplements, and they were not illegal at that time. The bodybuilding celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lee Haney are believed to be linked with steroids, however presently they speak against steroid use.

One of the most notable cases of the recent history of steroids in bodybuilding is Ronald Dean Coleman, popularly known as Ronnie Coleman. Ronnie, who equaled Lee Haney’s record in Mr. Olympia, has been named in investigations involving steroids. During the BALCO investigation, track star Tim Montgomery testified under oath to a federal grand jury that Victor Conte had bragged about getting Ronnie Coleman to use Winstrol, an anabolic steroid. An ongoing investigation by a New York State grand jury into online pharmacies also indicates that Coleman allegedly received fraudulent prescriptions for steroids. Additionally, there are persistent allegations by fitness enthusiasts and natural bodybuilders that Coleman and most other professional bodybuilders are using anabolic steroids and/or human growth hormone.

In an interview, the Austrian-born seven times former Mr. Olympia said, "I have no regrets about it, because at that time, it was something new that came on the market, and we went to the doctor and did it under doctors' supervision." Arnold did admit the use of steroids, but also pointed out that steroids were not illegal at that time. He said, “We were experimenting with it. It was a new thing!”

However, Arnold does not encourage the use of steroids in the present times. Arnold has urged bodybuilding officials to crack down on steroid use and suggested calling a summit of the sport's leaders to discuss the problem.

Steps to a great self-adminstered scalp massage

A SELF-ADMINSTERED SCALP MASSAGE is a great way to enhance hair health. Scalp massages not only feel good, they enhance hair health by improving circulation and allowing more blood to flow to the scalp area. This eventually leads to shinier, healthier hair.

The first step is to decide if you want to use scalp oil. The best oils for a SELF-ADMINISTERED SCALP MASSAGE depend on your needs. First, choose an oil such as olive oil, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil to use as a base. Then, pick the appropriate essential oils. For example, tea tree and lavender are often used for dandruff, rosemary and peppermint are sometimes used for hair loss, and chamomile and rose are often used if you are experiencing excess dryness. For each tablespoon of base oil you use, add two drops of essential oil. For each tablespoon of base oil you use, add two drops of essential oil.

The next step to a successful SELF-ADMINISTERED SCALP MASSAGE is to brush your hair. This helps detangle the hair, adds some shine, and loosens any flakes that are attached to the scalp. The best brush to use before your will depend on your hair type. Long, straight hair requires a different brush than short, curly hair. Bend from the waist and brush your hair upside-down. This improves scalp circulation and helps give the hair more body.

To begin the SELF-ADMINSTERED SCALP MASSAGE. Place a small amount of the scalp oil on your fingers. Bend from the waist to allow MORE BLOOD FLOW TO SCALP. Touch the pads of your fingers firmly to the scalp area near your temples. Massage in a circular motion your hairline gradually working your way around the entire scalp. Add more oil to your fingers when necessary.

After you use all the oil, warm a dry towel for a few seconds in the microwave and place it on your head. Let the oil set for at least ten minutes. Try not to do anything during that time. Just lie down, close your eyes, and listen to relaxing music. This allows the oils to absorb into your hair and scalp to give it added moisture.

When ten minutes are up, you will need to shampoo and condition your hair to wash out the SELF-ADMINISTERED SCALP MASSAGE oil. Gently brush your hair first to release any tangles. When you shampoo, keep in mind that you may need to lather up twice to get rid of all the oil. Follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. If your hair and scalp are extremely dry, leave the oil in overnight and shampoo and condition your hair in the morning.

Try to perform a SELF-ADMINISTERED SCALP MASSAGE once a week. If done regularly, you will notice that your hair is shinier and stronger and has a lot more body. You may want to vary the essential oils as your needs change. Just make sure to do your research. Some essential oils may be harmful and/or cause allergic reactions. Also, certain oils are not to be used if pregnant or nursing.

The plight of the aging drivers

Most adults, especially men, view their driver’s license as a mark of independence. This independence stems from owning their first car as a teenager. While the automobile is a powerful tool for independence and mobility, it is also potentially dangerous. At what age somebody becomes too old to drive is a sensitive subject as losing a license affects people's freedom and mobility. Many older people who are still very mentally agile are disconcerted by the fact that their means of getting around may disappear. A fear that they might led them to a change in their lifestyle.

Statistically speaking, older adults are nine times more likely to be involved in fatal car accidents than drivers aged 25 to 69, according to the U. S. Department of Transportation. Accidents involving older drivers can cause injury to both the older driver and other drivers and pedestrians. In 2000, older adults made up 9% of the resident population, but accounted for 13% of all traffic fatalities and 17% of all pedestrian fatalities.

Senior drivers over seventy do pose a risk. Statistics also show that more elderly drivers over the age of seventy are involved in fatal car accidents. There is concern on this matter because older drivers don't always do well in traffic situations due to slower reflexes and impaired vision. Generally. most senior drivers are good, safe drivers. They know their limitations and do their best to follow the rules of the road. But even the best and the safest drivers can have accidents when there are factors that impair their judgment or senses.

Some of the things that poses concern for senior drivers include poor vision, poor hearing, poor flexibility, limited range of motion, reduced reaction time and medications.

Other conditions or situations that can impair a driver's ability to safely operate a motor vehicle include:

Cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration can reduce visual acuity and limit visual fields, so a yearly eye exam is imperative for the elderly driver.

Something as simple as a clogged ear passage can create a hearing loss. A doctor can identify the problem and offer solutions, so have elderly hearing checked yearly.

Good drivers rely on looking out rear and side windows as well as checking rearview mirrors. When a driver lacks the ability to turn his head and shoulders to look outside, he may not see oncoming vehicles or obstacles traveling in the car's blindspot.

Many elderly drivers take several medications for health conditions. Those medications may interact with each other causing drowsiness or confusion.

As we age, we slow down, and reaction times diminish. Keeping extra space between the driver's and other cars can help reduce the likelihood of accidents, but there comes a time when reactions are too slow for road safety. When people begin to realize that their senses aren't as sharp as they used to be, their defense mechanisms kick in. They don't want to admit that they are forgetting things. They refuse to admit that they can't see or hear as clearly as before. They try to keep this information from their families and friends. One reason for such behavior is that they don't want to become dependent on others.

The keys to reducing accidents and unsafe driving are for older adults and their family members to recognize signs of unsafe driving, intervene appropriately, and find alternative means of transportation before safety becomes an issue.

The fundamentals of buying cheap contact lenses on the net

Without a doubt, the times we live in are more hectic (not to mention more expensive) than ever before. Our highways and byways are packed with all types of vehicles that are seemingly in a constant rush, and the fuel costs that accompany such autos are rising right before our eyes. It’s no wonder why so many have chosen to keep their car parked in the garage and shop for many items online from the comfort of their own home, with contact lenses being one purchase that’s growing in popularity. Besides the convenience, the ability to shop at several locations with the just a few clicks within seconds creates competition, which in turn ensures you the lowest possible prices.

Buying contact lenses online is really quite a simple process once you have found a reputable store to purchase them from. A bit of common sense combined with some insight into the niche will yield both a quality product and a positive online shopping experience.

First of all, you need to make sure that the site at hand is a reputable one, not a “fly-by-night” operation that will just take your money and skip town. Fortunately, the internet (although the cause of many such scams) can help to detect a phony operation, you just need to know what to look for. First, be sure that the Verisign logo is present, meaning that your information (including credit card and other forms of payment) cannot be intercepted by an uninvolved third party. Another observation necessary would be the contact information for the company itself. Is it easy to find? Is the phone number easy to remember? Is it a 1-800 number? Are there “help” options on the site? Contact us? You need to be sure that this company is willing to allow you to contact them when you want (or need) to, as this will ensure that they’re a “customer friendly” company.

If you’ve checked all of the above but still don’t feel quite right about the situation, you may want to check with the attorney general’s office or Better Business Bureau to see if there are any outstanding complaints against the company in question.

Brand recognition is another key element for a reputable contact lens website, and most such brands will allow their logo to be displayed on reputable reseller’s sites.

Finally, don’t be afraid to check personal reviews of the site, as well as the generic options available in your contact lens prescription. Generic doesn’t mean “cheap”, it means “a less costly alternative, for there’s no corporate logo on the item at hand”.

Too much of a good thing what you don t know about vitamin overdose

These days, supplements abound on the market, all touting the various health benefits that come with taking them regularly. Many people believe the hype and pop these supplements like candy. But as the saying goes, too much of a good thing is bad for you. Apparently, that saying applies to vitamins as well. In fact, the phenomenon of vitamin overdose is surprisingly little known for something that is as pervasive as the fad of taking all sorts of vitamin supplements. Unfortunately, these supplements not as regulated as other medications. Many overdose on vitamins because they don't understand what it is and the role it plays in the body.

Vitamins are substances found in the plants and animals that your body needs for normal function, growth, and health. The human body cannot manufacture these vitamins, and in some cases cannot store it in huge amounts. Each vitamin has a specific function, and they are involved in many processes that enable your body to use carbohydrates, fats and proteins for energy and repair. They can be classified into two categories: fat-soluble vitamins and water soluble vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins are absorbed by the body using bile acids, and are stored until they are needed. Among these are vitamins A (retinol), D (calciferol, commonly referred to as the sunshine vitamin), K and E (tocopherol). Water-soluble vitamins are easily absorbed by the body, but it cannot be stored and all excess is quickly flushed out through urine. Among these are vitamins B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cyanocobalamin), C (ascorbic acid), H (biotin), and Folic Acid. If you have low levels of certain vitamins, regardless of whether it is a water-soluble or fat-soluble vitamin, you may develop a deficiency disease. Some of the more familiar vitamin deficiency diseases are rickets (lacking vitamin D), scurvy (lacking in vitamin C), pellagra (lacking in B3 or niacin), and beriberi (lacking in B1 or thiamine).

On the opposite end of the spectrum, multiple vitamin overdose is basically being poisoned by vitamins. This is most commonly observed in patients taking the fat-soluble vitamins A and D, as well as concentrating on a specific B vitamin. Obviously, this occurs when you have too much of a particular vitamin or number of vitamins, and the gravity of the overdose is largely determined from person to person, depending of their age and state of health. As with the overdose of any drug, the imbalance causes unwanted side effects that are potentially life-threatening. The most common symptoms of vitamin overdose are diarrhea, irritability, dehydration, decreased appetite, constipation, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. These symptoms may disappear if the dosage is reduced.

However, in some cases, the overdose may greatly affect your overall health. For example, if you have a vitamin D overdose, this will cause the calcium levels in your blood to rise to toxic levels, causing damage to soft tissues, bones and kidneys, and possibly cause kidney stones to form. An overdose of vitamin A may cause liver problems, excessive skin dryness or peeling, coarse bone growths and reduced bone mineral density. Pregnant women must be especially careful not to overdose on vitamins because it may cause potentially serious birth defects.

The best way to get vitamins is through consuming nutritious food. To avoid a vitamin overdose, do not take more than the recommended daily dose of supplements. It would be wiser to consult a doctor before taking any vitamin supplement, especially if you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant, have a preexisting medical condition or are taking prescription medication regularly. Vitamin overdose is extremely preventable as long as you remember that everything must be take in moderation.

Getting away from a bad companion battling low self-esteem

It's not an inherited trait, it's a learned skill. Anyone can possess high self-esteem if they really want to. But for some, building positive thoughts about oneself is often difficult. Most people feel bad about themselves from time to time. Feelings of low self-esteem may be triggered by being treated poorly by someone else recently or in the past, or by a person’s own judgments of him or herself. This is normal. However, low self-esteem is a constant companion for too many people, especially those who experience depression, anxiety, phobias, psychosis, delusional thinking, or who have an illness or a disability. If you are one of these people, you may go through life feeling bad about yourself needlessly. Low self-esteem keeps you from enjoying life, doing the things you want to do, and working toward personal goals.

Everyone has the right to feel good about themselves. But sometimes, it can be very difficult to feel good about oneself when one is under stress, and having situations that are hard to manage such as dealing with disability, having a difficult time financially, going through a bad relationship, or when others are treating you badly. At these times, it is easy to be drawn into a downward spiral of poor self-esteem.

Feeling good about oneself is the most important part of living a life full of joy and vitality. Self-esteem is based on how you see your abilities and your worth as a person. People with low self-esteem are often shy, anxious, and often battle depression. They are negative about themselves and their abilities. Because they don't feel worthy, they are more likely to do things that are not good for their health, such as going on starvation diets and smoking.

People with high self-esteem tend to be secure and confident. They see themselves and their abilities positively. Because they know it is important to take care of themselves, they are more likely to eat well and to have a healthy lifestyle.

However, gaining self-esteem is not as hard as anyone thinks, so why not start doing something about it right now. All steps, big and small, towards gaining self-esteem fall into two main categories: Avoid the negative and accentuate the positive. Here are some steps to improve self-esteem:

Be positive about yourself and accept compliments that point out your strengths and abilities.

Be realistic about what you can do. Trying to be perfect and comparing yourself with other people can damage your self-esteem.

Recognize that everyone makes mistakes. When you make a mistake, do not put yourself down. Learn from your mistakes.

Listen carefully to others, without judging.

Respect people's differences. Recognize their strengths and accomplishments. Acknowledge the things others do that help your family, your workplace and your community.

Support and encourage other people's efforts to learn new things.

Give people in your family unconditional love.

Spend time with people who make you feel good. Do things that make you feel worthwhile.

But, most of all, exercise can be a practical choice to help one improve self-esteem. It's hard to feel negative when all those endorphins are all pumped up. Plus, anytime you feel as though you are doing something positive for yourself ---- you are actually building your self-esteem.

Tips on choosing your own skin care specialist

Name any famous celebrity or Hollywood star and chances are high that he or she has a skin care specialist to take care of his or her skin care needs. Having a skin care specialist lets these celebrities get customized skin care that is specially designed for the needs of their skin. If you want to have Hollywood-worthy skin, getting a skin care specialist should be high up on your list. Below are some tips on choosing your own skin care specialist:

1. Get recommendations from people who know the beauty industry.

If you have friends with great skin or know people who work in the beauty industry, take this as an opportunity to ask them for referrals and recommendations to their most trusted skin care specialists. Their great skin should be testament enough to the quality of work and service you can expect from the skin care specialist they recommended.

2. Be informed about the requirements of being a skin care specialist.

With a lot of little facial centers and spas sprouting up, you cannot be too careful about entrusting your skin to just anyone. Ensure that the skin care specialist you are going to see is fully qualified by the standards set the Bureau of Barbering and Cosmetology. Minimum requirements for a skin care specialist are as follows: certificate of completion of a 600-hour skin care course from a Bureau-approved school, passing grade from a Bureau-administered written and practical exam, and a license.

3. Check for certificates of attendance to recent skin care seminars.

Skin care is a fast-evolving industry with new technologies and techniques developed regularly. Any skin care specialist who is serious about his profession will be on the look out for seminars and training workshops for modern skin care.

4. Consider attitude and service in choosing a specialist.

You will be working closely with your skin care specialist in your quest for great skin. Hence, it is important that your skin care specialist has the right attitude and outlook about his or her profession. A good skin care specialist should actively seek out the needs of his or her client and be able to discuss critical options and methods prior to treatment. It is okay to switch to another specialist if you have an uncomfortable working relationship with your specialist.

5. Opt for a skin care specialist that can provide a wide array of services.

Although all skin care specialists have knowledge of different skin care treatments, some choose to specialize in one. Specialization is good but this means that you have to find another specialist for different treatments. Instead, for continuity's sake, choose a specialist that is skilled in providing different skin care treatments.

Choosing a skin care specialist is not a decision that must be taken lightly. Your skin is the first thing people notice when they look at you so it is important to entrust it to someone capable. Research and do your homework before looking for your own skin care specialist to ensure that you get the best one for your needs and budget.

The well-rounded breakfast

Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, exists all around the world and across several different cultures. Nowhere does the concept of breakfast go unheeded; in fact, every major culture in the world maintains its own traditions. Based on the similarities, all meals begin well before noon after a good night of sleep; and typically, the meal itself may be no larger than an appetizer, to as big as a t-bone steak. Varieties of all sorts exist.

The many different varieties come to serve a multitude of purposes. Good food and good company may be one; the other purpose being a hearty meal to satisfy the stomach before work or school, and to last until lunch. But the importance of a good breakfast, as researchers have guessed, stems from its nutritional value. Critics argue that the energy burned throughout the better part of the day comes largely from the food eaten at breakfast. This may be because of the time it takes for the body to digest and process the food we eat; it may also be because of how our bodies behave immediately after waking. Breakfast derives from the phrase "to break the fast," that is, to break the fast after a long night of sleep. When we sleep, our bodies go through a rigorous and important detoxification and healing process that burns energy and nutrients. It makes sense that, upon waking, our bodies will be hungrier than usual.

This hunger, or lack thereof, constitutes what many believe to be the importance of breakfast. The unfounded belief that breakfast will stave off excess hunger and calories can be attributed more to common sense than to any valid research. Observation suggests that a balanced breakfast can keep a body satisfied until the next meal time; and in having eaten breakfast, our bodies will less likely be susceptible to hunger pangs. Most important, our bodies require a refuel of energy upon waking, and breakfast helps to meet those demands. The delay of nutrients until, say, lunchtime, can strain the body and mind.

Culturally, breakfast has, in one way or another, turned out to be a meal rich in energy and needed calories. For example, the typical breakfast in Asia contains the following similarities: rice, egg, and noodles---foods loaded with ready-to-burn carbohydrates. Farther west in the regions of India and the Middle East are fattier but less portioned items, such as fried breads served with a condiment of pastes. Quick and easily prepared, but also high in instant energy, these breads comprise yet another similarity of breakfast that all cultures share: its small portion and its ease of preparation. Although not all cultures share this similarity, their deviations can be explained. Usually this has to do with social, economic, or even timely constraints. For example, big breakfasts may be prepared on weekends, with work out of the schedule; or practicality may be substituted for luxury, as indicated by the popularity of breakfasts offered by fast food chains.

The benefits of breakfast, nay, the importance of breakfast, can easily be traced around the globe. While the other meals in the day only serve to sate our hunger, or to aide our bodies in the long run, breakfast, or the lack thereof, has immediate effects.

Meditation in motion tai chi and stress management

To the uninformed, the mere mention of the term “martial arts” evokes images of rigorous fighting and violence. However, in China and other parts of the world, thousands are recognizing the health benefits of a Chinese form of martial arts called Tai Chi. Many of its practitioners have adopted Tai Chi not only as a martial art but as a technique to manage stress and anxiety. While its roots are to be found in China, the martial arts has gained wide following in the United States where stress and anxiety are now considered very common ailments.

According to the Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety, at least 19 million Americans are now affected by stress and anxiety. The anxiety disorder includes other symptoms of distress such as depression, alcoholism, excessive cigarette smoking, and other forms of subtance abuse. In many cases, the disorder becomes so intense that a person with anxiety could no longer function properly or engage in normal everyday activities. A generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) manifests itself as a chronic irritability, tension, or worry over a situation. The anxiety is often unwarranted or exaggerated when a person is anticipating a certain event or situation. Stress and anxiety are treatable and can be addressed using a variety of therapeutic options. The great number of people afflicted with anxiety disorders has also resulted in the increase in demand for therapy centers and psychiatric services. In these centers, a patient with an anxiety or stress disorder is provided counseling, coaching, and even diet advice. If necessary, the patients are also given anxiety medication to help relieve their worries.

One very popular stress management alternative is Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese form of “soft” or internal martial arts that helps promote health and longevity. Often seen being practiced by groups of people in parks, Tai Chi has grown popularity especially among the elderly and people with chronic illnesses. Often called the “moving meditation,” Tai Chi was developed in China as early as the 12th century by a Taoist monk named Zhang Sanfeng. Tai Chi literally means “supreme ultimate boxing” or “boundless fist,” a name that clearly points out to the combat applications of this slow, graceful Oriental art of physical fitness.

Many Tai Chi practitioners attest to the effectiveness of the art in promoting relaxation. The deliberate, slow movements of the upper torso, hands, arms, legs, and feet are soft exercises that promote flexibility. The practitioner breathes slowly with each graceful movement of Tai Chi. The slow repetitive movements of this unique form of martial arts promote the internal blood and oxygen circulation. It is believed that the emphasis of Tai Chi on proper breathing allows its practitioners to heal damaged internal organs and body cells.

Whether it is done alone or as part of a group, the Tai Chi forms or exercises offer anxiety relief. In fact, there are specific movements that require the practitioner to visualize the act of releasing stress and anxiety. As the Tai Chi practitioner moves his arms inward, it is accompanied by slow, deep breathing. The next move of pushing the arms outward is accompanied by the exhalation of air and the visualization of pushing away all negative thoughts and worries.

Other practitioners have also found Tai Chi to be an effective means of breaking the habit of smoking and excessive use of alcohol. Aside from bringing a sense of clarity and serenity, the practice of Tai Chi also helps the practitioner to adopt a more healthier lifestyle. Advanced forms of Tai Chi include the study and use of traditional Chinese medicine which involves the use of acupuncture, herbal medications, and therapeutic massage.

For serious cases of stress and other psychological disorders, regular consultation with a doctor or psychiatrist is highly advised. While Tai Chi is already a proven alternative form of stress management, some individuals may need to take anxiety medication that is prescribed a health professional.

Anxiety no need to worry

Reflexes go awry, bodily reactions prove to be dysfunctional, and behavior patterns seems meandering – a blend of these unusual occurrences and, by no doubt, you're having anxiety attacks. Anxiety is characterized to be continuous – and often times poignant - fears and worries that tends to interfere with normal human behavior or activities. Anxiety, as proven medically, though may seem to be inconsequential, may cause severe problems like alcoholism and low self-esteem. These complications, as studies prove, may lead to lethal consequences.

Though anxiety, or its possible repercussions, may pose to be lethal, studies show it's curable in nature and responds to treatment well. Medical breakthroughs and scientific researches offers a wide array of answers that ranges from anxiety treatment to coping with anxiety.

Anxiety treatments can be done through medications such as anti-anxiety drug, anti-depressants, and beta-blockers. Anti-anxiety drugs are prescribed for brief relief against anxiety attacks and it is also used to hamper anxiety's severe effects. Anti-depressants give the brain a boost to let it combat mind-paralyzing effect of anxiety. Beta-blockers, which are fondly used by performers to deal with stage fright and “weak” knees, are good combatants against physical symptoms of anxiety.

These may seem to be the positive contribution of anxiety treatments through medications but medical people wary in too much dependence on it. Anxiety medications can promote drug dependence and, with this, incalculable possible adverse effects are not had to imagine. They also advise people to take precaution by consulting their regular physician or family doctor.

Herbal medication alternatives and other natural forms of anxiety-curing regimen are also encouraged as forms of anxiety treatment. CBT or Cognitive Brain Therapy is one of the leading anxiety treatments. If a person is suffering from anxiety problems, CBT will help that individual to identify and overcome the traumatic experiences and notions that inhibits the individual from working through his fears. Constant exposure with this therapy would help you acquire certain skills that will strengthen your sense of emotional equilibrium and thus, you gain control over of your anxiety dilemma.

Coping with anxiety, however, is not that easy as it sounds. The tricky part here is that you must allow yourself to get ahead of the dilemma when in fact you did not manage to circumvent it. With this, medical professionals enjoin individuals to earnestly seek and religiously abide by a doctor's advice. The practical and medical based pieces of advice will help an individual navigate properly the in's and out's of anxiety dilemma.

They also encourage those relatives of those who are coping with anxiety to offer relentless support and multitudinous amount of patience understanding that this state of recovery is vital for them. Extending extra care and effort just to let them know that they are not alone in this battle. This is very important to know because one major manifestation of anxiety is seclusion.

Coping with anxiety, also, as said by doctors, has no “sure fire” formula. It takes careful planning and constant follow-up to be able to really give the best support and care for people coping with anxiety.

With this, let us put in our minds that, anxiety can be treated and it does respond accordingly to treatments. No matter how critical problem may be, just say, “Anxiety? no need to worry.”

Spiders could become an impotent man s best friend

There is a lot to be said of the effects that spiders have on humans. There's the psychological aspect, which often instills terror. After all, these beautiful creatures tend to be utterly alien in appearance to most humans, with their eight legs, arachnid body structures, and strange forms. Spider venom is also something that causes intense reactions, even though most spider species don't have venom that is potent enough to kill a human being. Sure, their venom is often very similar to nerve toxin, but only rarely will they be concentrated enough to be lethal to a human. However, if recent research and speculation is to be believed, spiders may soon become also find connections to human sexual health.

It is no secret that the Brazilian wandering spider, perhaps the most venomous spider in the world, has bitten humans before. It was noted that male victims often suffered various side effects to the neurotoxin-like venom. Among the more notable side effects included uncontrollable and highly uncomfortable erections, though these eventually led to impotence if the venom wasn't countered quickly enough. However, this side effect has prompted some researchers to look at the venom, to find out what component actually causes the erections and to see if a substitute for sexual health drug Viagra can be derived from it. The fact that the erections were described to be “unusually prolonged” suggests to some that the venom might, in fact, be more effective than Viagra.

However, this is only recent research. There are only a few pharmaceutical companies that are delving into this area of research, for a variety of reasons. First and foremost is that these erections (and other, potential sexual health benefits and impediments) are considered a side effect of the venom. This means that isolating the core toxin alone might not lead to what the companies are looking for. Another problem would be obtaining the venom itself, which is a daunting task. Despite being a known species, Brazilian wandering spiders are not known to be easy to catch, and the possibility of being bitten while attempting to grab one is relatively high. There are other spider species that cause similar effects with their venom, but these species were found to be in even more remote locations than the Brazilian wandering spider. This has not daunted some research groups, though. In theory, only a few specimens are needed to be caught in the wild; just enough to be able to successfully breed them in captivity.

The venom itself can be marketed as an alternate for sexual health medications such as Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis. While Viagra is effective enough in a large number of cases, there are some patients who do not show any appreciable effects due to the drug. There are several factors that can contribute to it being ineffective, often forcing doctors to recommend either Levitra or Cialis. However, the latter two have also been found ineffective in most cases where Viagra has failed, with some rare instances where the new drugs caused further damage. It is believed possible that a sexual health drug derived from the spider venom might be a working alternative to the above medications.

Why use tanning equipment

Most everyone wants to have a great tan, making them look like the live basking in the sun. The trouble with that is the damage that the sun can do to your body. There are many different products and ways out on the market today that will let you get a tan without having to spend hours baking in the sun.

There is the ever popular tanning beds that are used greatly. While they can still do damage to ones skin, your exposure time is much less and there are a great deal of products on the market to help protect you from the harmful rays. If you are tanning in a tanning bed then you will most likely use the goggles that tanning salons provide to help protect your eyes. There are also tanning accelerators as well as sunscreens to help you tan faster or to protect areas that you do not want to get tan.

Tanning salons also offer tans that can be sprayed onto the body while you stand in a cylinder like container. They guarantee to give you complete coverage without having tan lines or any areas that are over sprayed or uneven. This type of tanning will have to be kept up as it will only last so long. You can also use self tanning products that you can buy directly from drug stores. Be sure to follow the directions carefully as it has been known that people that misuse these products tend to get an orange tint to their skin.

If you are going to use the tanning beds than you want to be sure to stick with a set time limit as over exposure can be harmful as well as painful causing a burn. When tanning in a tanning bed the goggles are very important so be sure that the goggles fit nice and snug to your eyes and that you have your own or the salon sterilizes the ones that they keep for their patrons to use to avoid eye infections.

If you will be tanning outdoors be sure to use sun screen to help avoid damage to your skin. You will need to reapply the lotions often especially if you are swimming or sweating while being out in the sun. Be sure to check with your doctor as there are some medications that make people more sensitive to the sun and that can make them burn more easily from the suns rays and even the rays in a tanning bed.

Tanning doesn’t have to be taboo if you use caution and stay up to date on the tanning products that are on the market. Do not over expose your skin to the suns harmful rays to avoid damage to your skin. Keep in mind that you will need to reapply sun screen frequently to keep your protection levels up where they need to be.

The best of all worlds - top spas for march

If your idea of a trip to the spa is a pedicure and a facial … you aren’t going to the right spa. From bamboo lemongrass body scrubs to peppermint sea twists, spa treatments are more innovative than ever. Of course you can get straightforward treatments like Swedish massage but then you’ve got holistic treatments like Bio Energetic Transduction Aided Resonance (sound therapy) and Thalassotherapy (water therapy).

In addition to searching for a wide range of standard, as well as progressive, treatment options, our search for the best destination spas went beyond the service menu. The top-notch spas that made the cut each offer a unique spa and vacation experience. Whether you want to wash away impurities in Italy, immerse yourself in spiritual goodness at the Green Valley Spa in the Utah wilderness, unwind at a 19-th century cottage in lush Georgia countryside, or relax in a seaside villa at the Sanibel Harbour Spa, you’ll find what you’re looking for at one of these world-class spas.

While some may think of spas as vegetarian wastelands where strict trainers insist you load up on granola, tofu and wheat-grass juice—the stereotype is a misnomer. The Barnsley Gardens Resort & Spa in Adairsville, Georgia have a beer garden where they serve German beer, sausages and pretzels, while the Masseria San Domenico Resort & Spa serves fresh fish and shellfish from the Adriatic Coast.

Spas that made our list offer something for men and women, like the Carefree Resort & Villas in Carefree, Arizona. Their Men's Facial is specifically designed for men to help prevent or relieve razor burn, ingrown hair, and sensitivity. The treatment also includes a relaxing face, head, neck and shoulder massage (don’t worry; your secret is safe with us). The Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa in Birmingham, Alabama made our list for their amazing spa services and 8,191-yard championship golf course. We also liked the The Hills Health Ranch (don’t get the wrong idea guys; there’s nothing wimpy about hiking in the Canadian wilderness). During the winter, The Hills is a winter ski resort with over 100 miles of community based cross-country ski trails and during the summer, guests use those same trails for hiking and biking. They also have an indoor pool two hydrotherapy pools and cardio weight training equipment.

And in case you were wondering, ever spa on our list offers the utmost in luxurious accommodations—after all, you’re there to get spoiled and pampered.

The top ten hottest food trends you are buying into

It seems food companies around the world are using whatever marketing tactics possible to draw the consumer to the product while they whisk down the aisles of the supermarket. What is it about consumer behaviour that has food companies modifying, expanding, and diversifying their brands at such a fast rate?

Food experts have spotted 10 major food trends and outlined them in Food Technology's April issue. See if these trends match what you have stored in your pantry, freezer, and refrigerator.

* Foods for at-risk kids. Extra weight, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol can affect pretty much anyone at any age bow, so food products are trimming fat, sugar, and food allergens while boosting calcium and whole grains. Fresh fruit and yogurt remain top snacks for younger kids.

* Smaller servings, limited calories. Low-calorie items and smaller portions are in demand. Small sizes may become popular at restaurants, too.

* Focus on phytochemicals. These natural chemicals found in plant-based foods such as green tea, berries, and chocolate have healthy ingredients including antioxidants and flavonols.

* Foods with multiple health perks. People today want foods that multi-task for better health, such as items that are low in fat, cholesterol, and salt with a modest calorie count to help people watching their weight, or watching their heart health.

* Fat facts. The number of products touting "low," "no," or "reduced" trans fats has shot up in recent years. "Low in saturated fat," "fat-free," and "cholesterol-free" are other popular buzzwords on food packaging. It is also popular now to feature omega-3 fatty acids for heart health on food labels.

* Foods for older shoppers. Food marketers have an eye on the aging population, so expect to see foods aimed at common health concerns among elders, including osteoporosis, digestive problems, arthritis, and menopause. For example, some yogurts highlight probiotics (helpful bacteria) for digestion.

* Glycemic, gluten, and grains. The low-carb craze has waned, but items that are low on the glycemic index are still hot. Those foods don't cause dramatic spikes and crashes in blood sugar. "Gluten-free" fare is also catching on, with more people becoming aware of gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity. Glutens are a form of protein found in some grains.

* Natural solutions. Organic foods are the “in” thing these days. Meat and poultry from animals raised on vegetarian feed with access to pastures and without hormones or antibiotics are also catching on.

* Performance boosters. Products are promising to boost energy and mental sharpness. Flavored bottled waters are projected to grow by nearly 50% by 2009.

* Fun favorites. Some companies have put a twist on traditional products. Many items aim to skim sugar, fat, and calories off sweets and desserts without sacrificing taste.

It seems the public is seeking more healthy foods and the food companies are providing them. With all the trends out there, it is likely you fall into one or more of these categories. But are we falling for smart marketing ploys or are these products really delivering? Make sure you read your labels and separate the healthy from the hyped-up.

Never quit press on

From the time you said yes. you knew it was coming. As a Christian, you have long understood the toll of following Christ and the dues you have to pay as a servant. Going out of your comfort zones and being exposed to various sorts of humility-teaching mission trips...going down the ditch just like what the Savior did just to reach the “Christ-less” people... making great sacrifices... and going the extra mile just to realize the “cause” of the name that has been affixed to yours.

Even in the face of all these challenges and trials, you still allowed yourself to be enlisted as a soldier in a spiritual movement. But after some time, you also find yourself mired in the mud of doubt. You start to see the faults of your Christian peers which makes following Jesus more of a “drag.” The people you look up to in the faith, instead of promoting a Christ-likeness in your group, have been behaving unconventionally. Church and ministry pressures have become almost unbearable. To make matters worse, you somehow feel that you are now less appreciated compared to the “favored” new Christian guys. The fire within you starts to fade out. The faithful and enthusiastic “Yes!” had already become a faint “I-can't-do-it-anymore” retort. Indeed, most Christians experience their fair share of stress and anxiety. Even those looked upon by others as being “strong in the faith” have found their normal routine disturbed by all the troubles of every day life.

A lot of issues confront Christians, especially those who are called to be full-time ministers. Among the stress factors that afflict ministers and church workers include: the difference between expectations and hard reality; the difficulty of being a leader and a servant at the same time; the so-called Peter Principle in which one feels inadequate to lead a group of committed volunteers; the wide scope of responsibilities of a minister or church worker; and the constant pressure of living a “pure” life in front of a congregation.

Stress and anxiety can manifest not only as stressors (overwhelming emotions induced by environmental factors) but can also be seen as internal factors --- like the fear of being compared to others, for example. Being accused falsely by someone that you trusted; constant bickering with a fellow believer; conflict and confusion over theological principles and corporate beliefs --- all these can lead to stress and anxiety. These distressing predicaments can really put out the fire in a Christian's life. Psychologists also point out that stress and anxiety can inhibit normal brain activities, which can later lead to faulty decisions.

Compounded by all these problems, many believers feel like being on the verge of quitting. However, in the real sense, the word “quit,” or any word which carry same meaning is not registered in God's vocabulary. Instead, He wants us to persevere until He comes.

A struggling believer should consider the following suggestions that can help revive a sense of victory in one's spiritual and daily lives:

Prepare for stressful situations

As they say, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Even Jesus prepared for his great battle of temptation with a 40-day fasting. So, in this light, we must also follow the Master's example by being always prepared.

Relax for a while

Jesus encouraged us to “obey the Sabbath and keep it holy.” The Sabbath also was given so that man can rest from all the hard work. It's a good regimen for coping with anxiety. Listening to your favorite music and engaging in your hobbies are also effective in dealing with anxiety.

Practice a Healthy Christian lifestyle

Just like food that is important to the body, prayer and devotion are essential to one's spiritual nourishment. A car wouldn't run without fuel. In the same manner, our spiritual life would be in great peril if we do not take time to read God's word and constantly seek His guidance through prayer.

Set your priorities

This is not only applicable in the corporate world but also in living the Christian life. The sad part is that many Christians tend become lax about their spiritual life and, in the process, abuse God's grace. By knowing one's priorities, a believer's use of time, energy, and resources would be optimized.

Seek for continuous strength from God

Jesus is the ultimate source of our strength and power. Therefore, we need to constantly attach ourselves to the power source.

The Apostle Paul said, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus --- the author and the finisher of our faith.” By removing our focus on the daily problems and struggles that cause us anxiety, we are able to gaze on the Source of Life. Paul also advises all of us to “...press on toward the prize.” Indeed, with prayer and faith, all of us must continue in our journey of faith regardless of the trials that come our way.

Importance of losing weight more than just looking fat

One in every three Americans are now considered to be overweight and obese. This can be seen as an alarming rate when one thinks about it, since being overweight and obese is not just about the issue of appearance in our society but a serious health issue that can seriously affect a person's health. Although both these conditions have similar concepts, being overweight is different from obesity. Overweight people are the ones who weigh too much, while obesity means that a person has too much body fat that is already considered to be a health risk. Both weight conditions refer to weight that comes from bone, muscle, fat, and the amount of body water that a person carries.

A person who is overweight and obese usually have overweight or obese parents, too. Scientific evidence suggests that obesity is genetic, or runs in the family, so to speak. The environment also plays a role in developing obesity or being overweight. People are now gaining weight because of the food they eat. Eating choices like fast food burgers and fries that are equally high in fat and eating it in front of the television would not make the person burn all the calories needed to sustain the right weight. High calorie, low nutrient snacks and beverages, big portions of food, and a less than active lifestyle can also contribute to being overweight and obese. Sometimes, people turn to food for emotional comfort. When they feel stressed, sad, anxious, upset or even bored, they tend to eat more than usual, and they often eat more than what they need to consume.

Being overweight and obese is not just a cosmetic issue, but a health dilemma directly harmful to a person's health. These conditions increase the risk of developing a number of chronic diseases including hypertension, Type-2 diabetes, high cholesterol, strokes, heart attacks, cancer, congestive heart failure, gallstones, gout, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, fatty liver, depression, and other diseases.

For this reason, many people turn to anti-obesity drugs to eliminate their body fats as fast as possible. These medications are specially formulated for people who are either overweight or obese, and is medically prescribed only in cases where weight loss is needed to prevent further life-threatening diseases. Such anti-obesity drugs like Orlistat, Rimonabant, Metformin, Sibutramine, and Xenical have certain ingredients that would help induce the appropriate weight loss. Such mechanisms include the suppression of one's appetite, increasing the body's metabolism, and interfering with the body's ability to absorb certain nutrients in food. However, these anti obesity drugs also have side effects that can be risky to one's health. It is important to consult with the doctor before taking any of these anti-obesity drugs.

A healthier way to gradually decrease one's weight is to simply have self-control. Make a simple plan that would eventually limit one's food intake, like cutting back on those sugary beverages and junk food. If eating, make sure to pass up on second servings, and eat the right amount of fat and carbohydrates. By exercising even for just ten minutes a day, or by brisk walking, one can burn out the calories and help improve one's health. Do not forget to ask for help and support from friends and family, since this can boost one's confidence in to achieving their desired body weight.

Tips for healthcare savings what every person should know

Are you interested in saving on your health care needs? Do you occasionally need a prescription drug, only to have to do without because you can't afford it? How many times, just this year alone, have you looked at your smile wishing you could go to the dentist?

Not only can you save on these needs, but you can also save on vision and hearing needs as well. With the healthcare savings tips below, you can take care of yourself and family members without going broke.

Save at the Pharmacy

There are several ways to save money at the pharmacy. If you own a business, both over-the-counter and prescription medications are tax deductible. When you file taxes, you can use medical bills as leverage to save on your tax bill. This adds up quickly when buying expensive prescription drugs.

There are also special discount cards designed specifically to save you dollars at the pharmacy. With these cards, you can get antibiotics prescribed by a physician at discounted rates and short-term medications such as painkillers, which you shouldn't have to do without when you need them. Also with many discount prescription drug cards and pharmacy plans, you can visit almost any major pharmacy chain.

Another way to save on prescription drugs is to always ask for a "generic" brand. Generic brands can be substituted for name brand prescription drugs if the physician permits it. Generic drugs are often less expensive but have the same healing properties. There are also herbal remedies that can sometimes be substituted for prescription medications. Check with your doctor and pharmacist to see if this is a possible solution.

Saving at the Dentist

You can also realize savings on your annual dental cleaning as well as root canals. Getting a crown can really make you dig deep into your purse. Luckily there are health savings plans that can help you with these and other orthodontia needs so your beautiful smile can be a reality instead of just a wish. Just as medical doctor bills and prescription drugs, dental bills are also tax deductible if you own a business.

There are also independent dental insurance plans you can purchase if your current insurance company does not offer a dental plan. You can use the Internet to research plans that are available in your state. Though these plans often have a very limited maximum payout per year, they can be helpful in saving on individual dentist bills if you go regularly.

Savings on Vision Care

Does a saving of up to 60% on vision care interest you? It should, knowing that a pair of eyeglasses just five years ago was well over $350! Not to mention the average eye exam at around $75. Yes, vision care can get quite expensive these days. You don't have to put off going to the eye doctor any longer just because you can't afford it. Most people do put it off for that very reason.

Healthcare savings plans and discount cards are also available for vision care. And yes, this too is tax deductible for business owners. Another way to realize savings on eyeglasses is to keep your same frames when getting a new prescription. The new lens can be placed in your old frames so you won't have to pay for new frames.

With these savings, you don't have to feel guilty for taking care of your much-needed eyesight any longer.

Savings on Hearing Care

That old saying, "Nothing lasts forever" can be so true. It seems that the hearing is usually one of the first senses to start fading. You shouldn't have to be embarrassed when the time comes that a hearing aid is needed to boost your hearing. It's all a part of life. Whether you are more interested in ordering products through the mail or visiting a local hearing aid center near you, there are healthcare savings plans to help you save money on hearing products and exams.

Use these tips to realize tremendous savings on your health needs and live your life without worry of outrageous medical expenses!

Mastering workplace stress management

For an average employee, the demands of a job is stressful enough. But, for an employee with an anxiety disorder, meeting his work's demands is twice, even thrice as stressful. Getting treatment and undergoing medication for anxiety can be quite expensive so quitting one's job is not an option. There are ways to manage workplace stress but first, you have to know its common causes.

Common cause of workplace stress

* Excessive workload

* Unreasonable hours

* Tedious tasks

* Low pay

* Inconducive work environments

* Inefficient organizational practices

* Poor interpersonal relationships with colleagues

* Sudden workplace changes

Workplace stress management tips

Once you have determined the cause of your stress in the workplace, you can use any or all of the following tips in order to manage it:

1. Review your job description and responsibilities.

As much as taking more responsibility at work can boost your career, now is not the time to do so. You can take on more tasks once you are done with your treatment and can take on added responsibility. For now, review your job description and pertinent tasks. If there are tasks that are not included in your responsibilities, inform your supervisor and explain that in your current condition, it will be best if the extra work will be delegated to other people.

2. Keep your workstation as organized as possible.

Although you cannot control the entire office environment, you can try and keep your station as clean and organized as possible. Clutter can cause you to lose concentration while drab office colors can make you distressed. Use colorful space organizers like pen holders, in-trays, and folders to keep your station clean and cheery.

3. Participate in office events.

Participating in office events like corporate parties or casual lunches with your colleagues can boost your working relationship with them. A kind smile can go a long way in improving your interpersonal relationship with them.

4. Clarify concerns with the management.

Often, employees tend to form their own conclusions about new policies or procedures in the workplace. Unfortunately, these conclusions are often negative. Before joining the bandwagon, clarify your concerns first with your supervisor so you can get a clearer picture of what your employer and the company is trying to accomplish with the new policy or procedure.

5. Be open to workplace changes.

Employees often stress themselves over new procedures or policies. Instead of closing doors on changes, keep an open mind and try to see things differently. Sure, new rules or policies may be difficult to swallow at first but they might be what the company needs to move forward and create opportunities for employees like you.

Aside from these tips, you can also take advantage of Employee Assistance Programs or EAPs offered by your company like stress management programs or counseling services. you can ask your supervisor about this or the Human Resources Department. By taking an active role in your treatment and minimizing workplace stress, you can do well in your job and still be healthy.
